Stand-up Comedy: Public Divorce

Everything happens on social media now.

We share our pictures, stories, accomplishments, and failures.

Like divorce.

I mean, of course we should let the world know what we’re going through, or our relationship status.

But there becomes a point where it’s no longer sharing an update, a fact.

It becomes about emotions, and that can be dicey.

I had a friend go through a very public divorce.

Thing is, he was the one making it public.

He, as stated in the video, posted every stage of his emotional response to the situation.

Her lawyer got to see all his anger, and use it against him.

The world got to see him at his lowest.

Which, in many opinions, was healing end of things.

When you go “too sappy,” it gives people “the ick,” as the kids say.

(Oh, those wacky, crazy kids, with their cool, hip vernacular.)

Well, what’s my job as a stand-up comedian?

To mock his pain, of course!

To make jokes, and elicit laughter from a gathered crowd of merry people.

Sometimes, that even translates to the online world.

(Sometimes, it draws the ire of “superior people,” who are powerless in their little lives, and thus use the comment section to feel big, but we don’t care about them. In fact, we mock them.)

So, have a giggle at my friend’s expense.

He deserves it.
