Elk Hunting with Festus & Doc

Now you may think Randy was hunting with characters from Gunsmoke.
The mule’s name was Festus, so when we got a horse, at the time for our youngest son, and the horse had a grey “mustache”, he had to be named Doc. That, and his brand was the Double Doc Diamond. We ended up with Doc with our son had a huge growth spurt and outgrew the horse.
Randy recounts a solo elk hunt, back in the day, and having Festus and Doc pack out the elk. They were such good and loyal helpers and friends.
