Michael Knowles, calmly destroy the absurdity of transgenderism
In a recent debate, Michael Knowles, known for his ability to dismantle progressive arguments with calm and logic, tackled the issue of transgenderism from a conservative and traditionalist perspective. Knowles started by explaining how humanity has historically understood that the human body is intrinsically linked to personal identity. "People have understood that the human person has something to do with their body. So, your body has something to do with who you are," he stated, emphasizing the significance of the body in defining personal identity.
However, Knowles also introduced the concept of Gnosticism, an ancient philosophy that radically separates the spirit from the body, suggesting that our true self has nothing to do with our physical form. "It's a view that our bodies have nothing to do with who we are, that the body might even be evil, and that our true selves have no connection to our bodies," he explained, drawing parallels with current transgender ideology. According to him, this ideology suggests that gender identity can be completely disconnected from biology, something he considers not only false but also harmful.
Knowles argued that this view has severe social consequences. "And I think the social effects of that are really bad because it leads to women being deprived of their legitimate rights," he said, citing specific cases where biological men identifying as women have participated in women's sports or used women's private spaces, which he sees as a violation of women's privacy and rights.
The debate intensified when asked about the possibility of one of his children being transgender. With a nuanced response, Knowles expressed his unconditional love for his children but also his commitment to truth. "I would obviously love my children and try to do the best for my children. And the best I could do is be respectful, and also contribute to their flourishing by telling them the truth, that they're not really girls," he affirmed, highlighting the importance of truth over subjective perceptions.
This exchange not only underscored the fundamental differences between gender views but also showed how conservatism seeks to protect what it perceives as biological reality and women's rights against what it considers a misguided and dangerous ideology.
