‘Grow up’: Kevin Spacey responds to Guy Pearce’s allegation that he ‘targeted’ him

Guy Pearce has expanded on past allegations against Kevin Spacey, stating that Spacey "targeted" him during the filming of L.A. Confidential in 1997. Pearce, who previously referred to Spacey as a “handsy guy” in 2018, told The Hollywood Reporter that Spacey made him feel unsafe, though he brushed off the behavior at the time. He recalled feeling relief when co-star Simon Baker was present, as Spacey shifted his attention to him instead.

Reflecting on the impact of the #MeToo movement, Pearce said he later realized how he had suppressed the experience. Though he hesitated to call himself a victim, he acknowledged that Spacey’s behavior affected him. He also mentioned confronting Spacey years later, which led to heated encounters.

Spacey responded on social media, telling Pearce to “grow up” and denying the claims. He suggested that Pearce's decision to speak to the media rather than address him directly was unfair. Spacey pointed out that Pearce had willingly visited him in Georgia a year after L.A. Confidential, questioning why he would do so if he felt targeted.

Spacey, who was acquitted of sexual misconduct charges in both the U.S. and U.K., has previously criticized the #MeToo movement for what he sees as its excessive harshness but maintains that he has learned from past mistakes.
