Kratom is a tropical tree from the coffee family native to Southeast Asia. Also known as Mitragyna Speciosa, it’s grown in Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Its leaves are dried and used to make tea or encapsulated and sold as a supplement.

Traditional use of Kratom in Southeast Asia was first reported in 1836 but likely dates back much further. If you’re wondering why you’ve never heard about it…this is because Kratom wasn’t introduced in the United States until the late 1990s.

Despite a ruthless ongoing smear campaign, it is regularly consumed by up to 16 million people in the United States, according to the American Kratom Association.
