Was Christopher Columbus Jewish?

After the Spanish Inquisition, the Merano Columbus after securing funds sailed for the New World to possibly search for a new Jewish homeland.
Was he just a peacefull explorer or was he a conqueror enslaving/subjucating the native population?
The latter fits with the Jewish tendency for domination.
