The U.S. Air Force launched a Minuteman III ICBM early Wednesday from Vandenberg Space Force Base to demonstrate nuclear deterrence capabilities.

The unarmed missile traveled 4,200 miles to a Pacific test range at 15,000 mph.

The Air Force emphasized the launch was a routine test, not a response to global events.

The test followed Russia’s recent Yars ICBM combat drills, showcasing its own nuclear strength amid ongoing tensions.
