Most of us are aware of the Fourth Amendments Unreasonable Search and Seizure Clause. While definitions of what is "reasonable" have been argued since the Bill of Rights was ratified, it is pretty much agreed that the Fourth Amendment's prohibition against unreasonable searches and seizures includes the use of unreasonable force during an encounter with law enforcement. What responsibility does law enforcement have in the initiation and escalation of a dangerous, possibly life threatening situation. That was the question in the case Barnes v. Felix.
