How "Mel's Theme" came about (Versão em português logo abaixo)

When my daughter Melissa (Mel) was born, I used a musical keyboard with auto-accompaniment features that I had at the time to create a very simple instrumental song, like a lullaby, which I recorded in the keyboard's memory.
Every night, when it was time to put Mel to sleep, I would turn on the keyboard and play this song on a loop, repeating it until my little girl fell asleep. She loved to sleep like this, to the sound of this song that calmed her, rocking in my arms or in the hammock on the porch. That's how "Mel's Theme" came about.
In Brazil, at a girl's 15th birthday party, it is customary for the birthday girl's father (or another man in the family chosen by her) to dance a waltz with her. This is another tradition that is gradually being lost in our "modern world". Mel and I practiced our choreography and a little of our dance can be seen in this video, as a reminder of how quickly life passes.
In this year of 2025, when my daughter has become a woman and a mother and is pregnant again, I finally managed to produce this version, which combines real guitars, keyboard and virtual instruments. I wonder if my unborn grandson will enjoy being lulled to sleep with this "lullaby", as his mother loved so much?

Como surgiu o "Tema de Mel"

Quando nasceu minha filha Melissa (Mel), usando um teclado musical com recursos de auto-acompanhamento que eu tinha na época, criei uma canção instrumental bem simples, tipo um acalanto, que deixei gravada na própria memória do teclado.
Toda noite, na hora de fazer Mel dormir, eu ligava o teclado e punha essa canção para tocar "em loop", repetindo-a até minha menina adormecer. Ela adorava dormir assim, ao som dessa canção que a acalmava, balançando em meus braços ou na rede da varanda. Assim surgiu o "Tema de Mel".
No Brasil, na festa de celebração dos 15 anos de uma moça, é costume o pai da aniversariante (ou algum outro homem da família por ela escolhido)dançar com ela uma valsa. esse é mais uma tradição que vai aos poucos se perdendo no nosso "mundo moderno". Eu e Mel treinamos nossa coreografia e um pouco da nossa dança pode ser vista neste vídeo, como uma lembrança de quão rápido passa a vida.
Neste ano de 2025, quando minha filha já se tornou mulher e mãe e está novamente grávida, finalmente consegui produzir esta versão, que mistura violões reais, teclado e instrumentos virtuais. Será que o meu neto que está por vir apreciará ser ninado com essa "canção de acalanto", como sua mãe tanto gostava?
