Today’s Readings:
Epistle: 2 John 1:1-13
Gospel: Mark 15:22-25, 33-41

Embracing Truth and Love Amidst Suffering and Sacrifice

In the Epistle, the Apostle John emphasizes the importance of walking in truth and love. He commends the "elect lady" and her children for adhering to the truth and urges them to continue loving one another, as this is the commandment they have had from the beginning. John also warns against deceivers who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ coming in the flesh, advising believers to remain steadfast in the teachings of Christ to receive a full reward.

In the Gospel, we witness the crucifixion of Jesus at Golgotha. Mark details the events of Jesus' suffering, including the darkness that fell over the land and Jesus' profound cry, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Despite the agony, a Roman centurion, observing Jesus' death, proclaims, "Truly this man was the Son of God." This passage highlights the depth of Jesus' sacrifice and the recognition of His divine identity even in the midst of suffering.

Together, these passages call the faithful to embody truth and love in their daily lives, recognizing that following Christ may involve enduring suffering and sacrifice. They also remind us of the profound impact of Jesus' sacrifice and the importance of remaining vigilant against deceptive teachings that undermine the core truths of the faith.
