Maria Theresia (Part V-AUD ITA)

Maria Theresia, the 5th and final part, was premiered on streaming at the end of 2021 before being broadcast in 2022. Audio in Italian. I could not find this part in German, or any other audio, nor the English subtitles.

Part V: By 1760, Franz Stephan was the Holy Roman Emperor and Maria Theresa's co-regent, but she was largely the only one who ran the affairs of state. Political marriages were intended to secure the Habsburg Empire. Love played no role in this. Her many children had to submit to politics. Disappointed, Franz Stephan increasingly withdrew to Hof Palace. While he turned to profitable business, Maria Theresa had her heir to the throne, Archduke Joseph, educated to the highest level. He now grew up to be a liberal rival of his mother and a bitter opponent of his often absent father. His marriage to Isabella of Parma was both his great happiness and his deepest misfortune. When Franz Stephan died unexpectedly in 1765, Joseph became co-regent with his mother, who had no intention of sharing power with him.
