The Book of Jonah

Jonah 2

2 And prays, Jonah, unto Yehovah his God from bowels the fish*. 2 And says,

“Called from distress to me, unto Yehovah.
And answers me.
From womb Sheol, hailed – heard my voice.
3 And casts me – depth,
In heart seas.
And river surrounds me.
All your breakers and your waves
Upon me passed over.
4 And I said, ‘Expelled from front your eyes.
Surely add to gaze unto temple, Your holy.’
5 Encompassed me, waters, until soul.
Abyss – surrounds me.
End – bound to my head.
6 To cuttings the mountains descended.
The earth – her bars behind me to vanishment.
And ascend from pit, my life!
Yehovah my God.
7 In covering upon me, my soul,
Yehovah remembered.
And goes unto You my supplication,
Unto temple, Your holy.
8 Guarding vanities – emptiness.
Their mercy – forsake.
9 And I – in voice thanksgiving,
Shall sacrifice to You.
Which vowed – shall requite.
Salvation-ward – to Yehovah!”

*Verse 1: dagah (fem. noun)
