A group of concerned Canadians got together to promote the founding principles of Canada. Their website: www.OurPrinciples.ca focuses on promoting transparency and accountability in government actions. The site serves as a platform for citizens to engage with democratic processes and emphasizes the importance of upholding ethical standards in governance. It provides resources, information, and a space for public discourse on political integrity and government accountability.

The Principles, https://ourprinciples.ca/the-principles/, are the foundational concepts of individual rights and government duties. They are not new but rooted in the teachings and practices of ancient and modern societies. They assert the importance of human dignity, freedom, and justice, highlighting that rights are inherent to individuals and must be protected by governments.

These ideas run through historical texts, including the Code of Hammurabi, Greek philosophers like Solon, Pericles, and Aristotle, and Roman contributions, notably by Cicero, who articulated the notion of universal and eternal law based on natural reason.

Contemporary legal frameworks, such as the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Canada’s Constitution, fail to recognize inalienable rights and introduce inequalities through provisions that grant different rights based on group status. This undermines the principle of equal treatment and leads to societal divisions and authoritarian governance.

Canadians are invited to reaffirm the enduring Principles in order to foster a society that is peaceful, just, and free.
