A Case for the Protestant Canon of the Old Testament
How do we know which books should be in the Old Testament? Protestant, Catholic, and Eastern Orthodox Christians disagree on which books should be included in the Old Testament. Protestants include 39 books, Catholics include 46, and the Eastern Orthodox have even more in their Bibles. These disputed books are referred to as the apocryphal books in Protestants circles and the deuterocanon in Catholic circles. So, why is there disagreement over some of these books, and which tradition is right about their canonical status? Do we know whether or not these books are really inspired messages from God? Joel Mohrmann offers an answer to this question in this presentation where he makes a case for accepting as Scripture the 39 books found in the Protestant canon.
