MZTV 1679: How to Use and Misuse Your Freedoms

I am always encouraging you to use you freedoms. Remember, “God has given us all things richly to enjoy” (1 Timothy 6:17). These are things such as food, drink, smoking articles, and sexual pleasure. God has sprinkled this difficult world with pleasures meant to get us through to the snatching away. (Thank You, God and Jesus!) But, like any great truth Paul presents, there are problems. (Always problems.)

The problem is that there are other believers among us, weak in faith, who lack the spiritual wherewithal to enjoy the pleasures that we partake in freely and with thanksgiving. Some believers, for instance, think that drinking alcohol is a sin. We’ve had recent evidence that some among us think it’s a sin to touch yourself pleasurably. What? Oh, yes. They’re out there. How do we handle these individuals? Are we supposed to give up our pleasures (some would call them “our crutches”; that’s okay, crutches help people walk) for the sake of weak brethren? No. But we must also know how to avoid directly offending them. It’s a delicate walk.
