One Amendment, Dozens of Hidden Changes
Imagine being asked to vote on one thing—only to find out later it actually changed 40, 50, or even 60 different laws. That’s exactly what’s happening with Louisiana’s Amendment 2.
The Louisiana Constitution requires that proposed amendments focus on a single issue, so voters know exactly what they’re deciding. But this amendment is a tangled mess, bundling together unrelated changes that affect everything from taxes to education funding to nonprofit protections.
William Most, a constitutional rights lawyer, explains why this violates transparency and fairness. Voters are being asked to approve sweeping changes without even knowing what’s inside.
Should lawmakers be allowed to hide so many changes inside one amendment? Drop your thoughts below.
