The Problem with Misleading Ballots
16
What if your ballot only told you the good parts of a law—and hid the bad?
That’s exactly what’s happening with Amendment 2, according to constitutional rights lawyer William Most. The language on the ballot only mentions the appealing parts, like teacher pay, but fails to disclose major consequences—such as limits on local tax control and weakened protections for church property.
This kind of selective wording isn’t just misleading—it violates Louisiana law, which requires ballot measures to be simple, unbiased, and easy to understand. Voters deserve the full picture, not a sugarcoated version of the truth.
Should ballot measures be required to disclose both pros and cons? Join the conversation below.
