Open Source Software: Decentralisation and usability don't go well together
With open source software people often just add the capability they need piecemeal. There is little in the way of a unity of vision, project management or concern for user experience. There is often a lack of centralised leadership on projects and it is difficult to do so without said leadership leading to further problems. Yet these should be acknowledged in what is otherwise a free for all. How it all comes together is often rather poorly. These failings are often put on the user who is then treated as though they are to blame when contributing useful feedback because open source is not just all about code but realising what it is that you're supposed to be coding and for who which doesn't always have to be entirely for yourself. It's a pretty big issue if someone has one of the simplest and common use case but has to struggle this much.
