Popes: Eugene IV #205, VRP Catholic Media.
Pope Eugene IV, born Gabriele Condulmer in 1383, was elected pope in 1431 and led the Church during a tumultuous period marked by political strife and theological debates. He is particularly known for his efforts to reform the Church, his strong stance against the conciliar movement, and his role in the attempted reunification with the Eastern Orthodox Church through the Council of Florence. Despite his achievements, Eugene IV's papacy was also marred by controversy, especially his excommunication of the followers of the conciliar movement, which led to tensions within the Church, and his dealings with the Hussite heresy, which provoked backlash from some factions.
