Serum cholesterol serves an indicator (reflection) of ETBF dissemination in atherosclerosis. Cholesterol - can be utilized by B. fragilis, increases Bft binding and but can also 'solvate' and neutralize ETBF. Fragilysin is likely the root cause, not chole-sterol.
