If you want a horror movie with a title that sounds like a wacky Rob Schneider comedy or a National Geographic documentary, “The Monkey” just might be up your alley. This movie revolves around an old-style wind-up monkey toy that’s cursed and people die whenever it’s wound up and plays. Unfortunately the Shelburn family has this cursed monkey in their lives and thus death always surrounds them. It even finds its way to multiple generations of this family. No matter how hard they work to get rid of it, it always finds its way back. The Shelburns we spend most our time with in this movie are Hal and Bill, identical twin brothers, who don’t get along at all. When they’re kids the cursed monkey toy enters their lives and the dying starts. The quandary is you have to try to keep everyone you love away from you so they don’t become a victim of the cursed monkey. Believe it or not, director Osgood Perkins (Longlegs) is able to weave comedy throughout this dark, bloody tale. Is it worth finding out what happens next?
