Daily Bread: Scripture, Saints, and Sacred Reflections

Epistle: Ecclesiasticus (Sirach) 24:23-31
"As the vine I have brought forth a pleasant odour: and my flowers are the fruit of honour and riches. I am the mother of fair love, and of fear, and of knowledge, and of holy hope..."
🔹
Reflection:
This passage, often associated with the Blessed Virgin Mary, reminds us of her role as the Mediatrix of all graces. She is the mother of holy hope, guiding us toward her Son and calling us to a life of virtue. As we approach Lent, let us invoke Our Lady’s intercession to obtain the graces we need to grow in holiness.

Gospel: Mark 10:15-21
"At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall not enter into it. And embracing them, and laying His hands upon them, He blessed them..."
🔹 Reflection:
Our Lord calls us to approach Him with childlike faith and humility. The world values power, knowledge, and self-sufficiency, but Christ tells us that it is through simplicity and trust that we enter the Kingdom of Heaven. This is a perfect reminder as we prepare for Lent—our fasting and penance should be done with a pure heart, not for self-glory, but out of love for God.

Traditional Feast Days – February 27
📜 St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows (1838-1862)
St. Gabriel was a Passionist who lived a life of deep prayer, mortification, and devotion to the Sorrowful Mother. Despite his short life, he became a model of piety and self-denial, offering his suffering for the love of Christ.
🕊️ Reflection on St. Gabriel:
St. Gabriel’s life is a testament to the power of sacrifice. In a world that flees suffering, he embraced it joyfully, knowing that it led him closer to God. As we prepare for Lent, let us reflect: Are we willing to embrace sacrifice for the sake of holiness?

Humility, simplicity, and trust in God define the path to holiness. St. Gabriel embraced suffering with joy, knowing that it was a means to sanctity. In the same way, we are called to approach God with the heart of a child—completely trusting in His divine plan.
