The Thin End of the Wedge - The Triumph TR7 Story

Hello all! :D

One of the most notorious of British Leyland's products, the Triumph TR7 is highlighted as perhaps the very face of everything that was wrong with the carmaking conglomerate due to a mixture of its incredible aspirations and fervent desire to be the market-beating model that was see the company march into the United States in numbers that would easily match previous generations of successful British sports cars like the MGB and the Triumph Spitfire.

Sadly, the TR7 was a promising machine that was cut off at the knees by a variety of factors, including unusual styling, the lack of a dedicated convertible, poor build quality, rampant strike action at its main production plant and the subsequent transfer of its assembly twice when its home factories were closed amid the need to reduce overhead, and the fact that it had completely foregone the factors that made British sports cars appealing in the first place, presenting a machine that was seeking to be a Porsche-killer, when it should have been a simple, cheap but fun and nippy roadster as per the MGB.
