Slowing Down Aging: The Power of Vitamin D, Omega-3, and Exercise EP. 1231 MAR 2025
This research, a component of the larger DO-HEALTH trial, specifically examined the impact of vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids, and exercise on DNA methylation clocks, indicators of biological aging, in a subset of approximately 777 older adults. While the broader DO-HEALTH trial included over 2,000 participants, this particular study focused on those with available DNA methylation data. The researchers found that a combined intervention of vitamin D, omega-3, and exercise led to a noticeable slowing of biological aging, as reflected in the DunedinPACE epigenetic clock. Although individual interventions also showed some positive trends, the combined approach demonstrated the most significant effect. This study highlights how targeted lifestyle interventions can potentially influence biological aging in older adults, based on analysis of a specific subset of the DO-HEALTH trial participants.
