Black Skimmer Colony, Day Nine of Hatching Part One

Welcome to Day 9 of our Black Skimmer hatch watch! 🐣 Today, we scanned the colony for chick activity and witnessed the fragile moments as new life emerges. However, the gulls have discovered our colony, circling in search of easy prey. Attracted by the empty eggshells, they relentlessly target the eggs, small chicks, and even the fish the parent skimmers are trying to feed their young.

In a heart-pounding moment, I managed to rescue a young chick dropped by a gull and returned it to the colony, hoping it would find its family.
