Popes: Gregory XII #203, VRP Catholic Media.
Pope Gregory XII (r. 1406–1415), is best known for his role in ending the Western Schism. His papacy was marked by attempts to restore unity within the Church, as he sought to end rival papacies in Avignon and Rome, eventually resigning to pave the way for the Council of Constance, which formally resolved the schism. His controversial resignation, often seen as a necessary act for peace, was criticized by some for its political motives, but it contributed to the healing of the Church and the return to a single papacy.
