Why are people slicing open fish and scooping out their eggs? It looks brutal, but this is actually how salmon are artificially bred in hatcheries!
First, a female salmon is cut open to collect her eggs. Then, sperm—also called "milt"—from a male salmon is added to fertilize them. These fertilized eggs are placed in special tanks with controlled water temperature and oxygen levels, mimicking nature.
Some of these salmon will end up on dinner plates, while others are released into rivers to support wild populations!
