European Independence: Principles vs Economics and Geopolitics

DW commentary on statements the German Chancellor Merz made in an interview shortly after winning the German Election in 2025.

Merz stated the Americans are indifferent to the EU, and that the EU and US should be in partnership.

Principles (values I suppose) are quite prominent in the discussion. The German commentator said essentially that it is necessary for America to look at the relationship from an ethical perspective, rather than from an economic and military perspective.
