In the old days the lake was called “Lario”, which means “deep place”. Lake Como is indeed the deepest in Italy, which explains its ancient name.

Since ancient times, the shores of Lake Como have been planted with southern plants - palm trees, cypresses, rhododendrons, oleanders. Today it is also complemented by evergreen cypresses, luxurious laurels, myrtles, pomegranate trees, chestnuts and olives.
