House unveils stopgap measure to keep the government funded

House Republicans introduced a stopgap measure on Saturday to fund the government through September and prevent a shutdown.

The 99-page bill includes increased defense spending, additional funding for veterans’ healthcare, and reduced non-defense spending.

Despite support from President Trump, the bill faces opposition from Democrats, who criticize cuts to healthcare and benefits.

Some Republicans are also hesitant, and House Speaker Mike Johnson is working to secure enough votes, including from hardliners, CBS News has reported.

If approved in the House, the bill will move to the Senate, where at least seven Democrats’ support is needed for passage.
