South and North Carolina, USA, are engulfed in dozens of wildfires that erupted last weekend, forcing authorities to order evacuations in several areas. The greatest threat comes from the wildfire in Carolina Forest, an area west of the popular resort city of Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. The fire broke out on Saturday, March 1, and grew rapidly overnight, prompting urgent evacuations in several neighborhoods. As of Sunday evening, the fire had consumed 1,600 acres, but firefighters managed to contain 30% of it. Some evacuees have already been allowed to return home.
