Brutal massacre of Syrian Christians goes unpunished amid media silence
The persecution of Christians in Syria has reached an alarming level, with the massacre of at least 1,800 believers in recent days. However, this brutality has been ignored by mainstream media, which seems to selectively decide which injustices deserve coverage based on ideological convenience. While progressive agendas insist on denouncing so-called "systemic oppression," they remain complicitly silent when the victims are Christians.
From Western universities to the World Economic Forum in Davos, the dominant narrative is that the fight is for minority rights. But why does this rhetoric collapse when Christians are the persecuted minority? In Syria, entire Christian communities have been displaced, tortured, and murdered, yet this does not generate outrage among those who claim to be human rights defenders.
Violence has also affected other ethnic and religious minorities in the region. Druze and Kurds, as well as Shiite communities like the Alawites, have been victims of brutal attacks. Paradoxically, these crimes are committed by groups that have received support from progressive Western governments under the pretext of overthrowing Bashar al-Assad's regime.
One such government is Spain, led by socialist Pedro Sánchez, which at one point backed rebel forces under the guise of promoting democracy in Syria. Today, when these same groups attack religious minorities, the Spanish government and other European countries remain silent.
The financial and political support for radical Islamist groups by progressive powers has had devastating consequences. Not only have they contributed to Syria's destruction, but they have also enabled the rise of regimes that impose Sharia law and persecute non-Muslims. This reality starkly contrasts with the narrative of tolerance and human rights these governments preach in their international speeches.
Meanwhile, major media outlets ignore or downplay these events because they do not fit their ideological agenda. The double standard is evident: if the massacre of 1,800 people had occurred in any other context, with victims of another creed or political group, it would dominate newspaper headlines. But since the victims are Christians, their suffering is dismissed as a mere consequence of the conflict.
The question is: how long will this unchecked persecution be allowed to continue? It is crucial for conservative voices and religious freedom advocates to speak out against this injustice. We cannot rely on traditional media or international organizations, which have proven their bias.
