3 charged with second-degree murder after 5-year-old killed in hyperbaric chamber explosion

Three individuals have been charged with second-degree murder after a 5-year-old boy, Thomas Cooper, died in a hyperbaric chamber explosion at a Michigan medical facility in January.

The explosion occurred at the Oxford Center in Troy, where safety protocols were reportedly ignored.

The charged individuals include the facility’s owner, Tamela Peterson, safety manager Jeffrey Mosteller, and primary management assistant Gary Marken.

The investigation revealed multiple safety failures, such as neglecting maintenance checks and safety procedures.

Peterson, Mosteller, and Marken also face involuntary manslaughter charges, while the chamber operator, Aleta Moffitt, faces additional charges, ABC News has reported.

The boy’s death highlights the need for stronger oversight of hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatments.
