SAINT BRIDGET PRAYERS ~ THE PASSION OF CHRIST

The Twelve Year Prayers of Saint Bridget of Sweden are a series of prayers that Saint Bridget (1303–1373) claimed were revealed to her by Jesus Christ. These prayers focus on Christ’s Passion and the graces that He promised to those who faithfully recite them every day for twelve years. They are also known as the Fifteen Prayers of Saint Bridget, but the twelve-year devotion is distinct in its format and promises.

Origin and Purpose:
Saint Bridget of Sweden, a mystic and visionary, received private revelations from Christ, which she recorded in her Revelations. The Twelve Year Prayers specifically meditate on the wounds and sufferings of Jesus, asking for mercy and graces for the soul and for the world.

Structure of the Devotion:
This devotion consists of seven prayers, each honoring the wounds and sufferings of Christ. The prayers reflect deeply on His Passion and express gratitude for His redemptive sacrifice.

Promises Attached to the Devotion:
According to tradition, Jesus made several promises to those who faithfully recite these prayers daily for twelve years, including:
* The soul who prays them will not suffer Purgatory.
* The soul will be granted a holy death.
* The soul will be counted among the martyrs and saints of heaven.
* The soul’s family lineage will be protected from damnation.
* The soul will receive the grace of final perseverance and die in God’s grace.

Each of the seven prayers corresponds to a specific aspect of Christ's Passion:
1. The Circumcision and Early Sufferings of Christ
2. The Suffering on the Mount of Olives (Agony in the Garden)
3. The Flogging at the Pillar

5. The Carrying of the Cross
6. The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus
7. The Wound in Christ’s Side and His Precious Blood

Commitment and Completion:
The prayers must be recited every day for twelve years without interruption.
If a person misses a day, they should make up for it by praying extra on another day. If the person dies before completing the twelve years, the prayers will still be considered fulfilled due to their good intention.
