The Miracle of Prophet Shuayb (AS) and the Destruction of Madyan

Asslamoalaikum sisters, brothers, friends and elders, Today in this series of videos of miracles and events of prophets and great religious figures, we are going to describe recount a hearttouching miracle and event, subject that The Miracle of Prophet Shu‘ayb (A.S.) and the Destruction of Madyan

Prophet Shu‘ayb (A.S.) was one of the noble messengers of Allah SWT, sent to guide the people of Madyan (Midian). He was known for his wisdom, eloquence, and strong faith. His mission was to call his people toward monotheism and righteousness, warning them against corruption and dishonesty. However, the people of Madyan rejected his message, and as a result, they were struck by a devastating divine punishment. The greatest miracle in his story is how Allah SWT saved Prophet Shu‘ayb (A.S.) and his righteous followers while destroying the disbelievers with a severe punishment that included a scorching storm, black clouds, lightning, and a powerful earthquake.

Madyan was a prosperous and wealthy city located in present-day northwestern Arabia, near the region of modern Jordan. The people of Madyan were skilled traders and merchants, but they were also deeply corrupt. They engaged in fraudulent business practices, such as cheating in weights and measures, stealing from others, and using deception to gain unfair profits. Their dishonesty in trade was widespread, and they had no fear of Allah SWT.

Moreover, they worshipped false gods and refused to acknowledge the oneness of Allah SWT. They indulged in immoral behavior, ignored justice, and showed arrogance toward the poor. Prophet Shu‘ayb (A.S.) was sent to correct their ways, urging them to abandon their corrupt practices and turn back to the true path of Allah SWT.

Prophet Shu‘ayb (A.S.) warned his people repeatedly. He reminded them of the blessings Allah SWT had given them and urged them to trade honestly, treat others with fairness, and worship only Allah. He said:

*"O my people, worship Allah. You have no deity other than Him. And do not decrease from the measure and the scale. Indeed, I see you in prosperity, but indeed, I fear for you the punishment of an all-encompassing Day."* (Surah Hud 11:84)

However, the people of Madyan mocked him and refused to listen. They accused him of being a liar and ridiculed his message. Some even threatened to expel him and his followers from the city if they did not abandon their beliefs. Despite their hostility, Prophet Shu‘ayb (A.S.) remained patient and continued to call them to righteousness.

After years of rejection and arrogance, Allah SWT decided to punish the people of Madyan for their disobedience. Prophet Shu‘ayb (A.S.) and his small group of righteous followers were saved by the mercy of Allah SWT, while the wrongdoers faced a series of catastrophic events that led to their complete destruction.

1. **A Scorching Heatwave:** Before the punishment struck, Allah SWT sent an intense heatwave upon Madyan. The people suffered from unbearable heat, and no water or shade could provide relief. This was the first warning, but they still refused to repent.

2. **The Arrival of Black Clouds:** As the heatwave continued, black clouds appeared in the sky. The people of Madyan saw this as a sign of rain and rushed toward the clouds, hoping for relief. However, they were unaware that this was the beginning of their punishment.

3. **A Violent Storm and Lightning:** Suddenly, a powerful storm struck them. Fierce winds, combined with lightning and thunder, caused chaos. Instead of bringing rain, the clouds unleashed destructive forces upon the disbelievers.

4. **A Massive Earthquake:** Finally, a devastating earthquake shook the entire city of Madyan. Buildings collapsed, the ground split apart, and everything was destroyed. The people who had mocked Prophet Shu‘ayb (A.S.) were buried under the rubble, and their wealth and possessions were lost forever.

While the punishment wiped out the disbelievers, Prophet Shu‘ayb (A.S.) and his followers were miraculously saved. Allah SWT guided them out of the city before the disaster struck, ensuring their safety. This miraculous event demonstrated that Allah SWT always protects His righteous servants and punishes those who persist in wrongdoing.

After the destruction, Prophet Shu‘ayb (A.S.) returned to Madyan and saw the ruins of the once-prosperous city. Filled with sorrow, he said:

*"O my people! Indeed, I conveyed to you the messages of my Lord and advised you, but you do not like those who give sincere advice."* (Surah Al-A‘raf 7:93)

The story of Prophet Shu‘ayb (A.S.) carries powerful lessons for humanity:

1. **Honesty in Business:** Allah SWT commands justice and honesty in all dealings. The people of Madyan were punished because they engaged in deceitful trade and corruption. This serves as a reminder that dishonesty leads to destruction.

2. **The Power of Patience and Faith: ** Prophet Shu‘ayb (A.S.) showed patience and dedication despite facing mockery and threats. His unwavering faith in Allah SWT ultimately led to his salvation.

3. **Divine Justice:** Allah SWT gives people many chances to repent, but when they persist in wrongdoing, His punishment is inevitable. The destruction of Madyan proves that no civilization can escape divine justice.

4. **Allah Protects the Righteous:** Even in the midst of disaster, Allah SWT saved Prophet Shu‘ayb (A.S.) and his followers. This is a reminder that those who obey Allah SWT will always find His mercy and protection.

The story of Prophet Shu‘ayb (A.S.) is one of faith, resilience, and divine justice. Despite facing rejection and hostility, he remained committed to his mission. His miracle lies in how Allah SWT saved him and his followers while punishing the disbelievers with a terrible storm, black clouds, lightning, and an earthquake. This story continues to serve as a warning and a lesson for all generations, emphasizing the importance of honesty, righteousness, and unwavering faith in Allah SWT.
