Is mental problem genetic or not This is the complete truth
Is It Anxiety or a Medical Condition? How to Identify the Root Cause of Your Symptoms
Hello friends! Welcome and today, we’ll discuss a very important topic—how to determine whether your physical symptoms are caused by a medical condition or anxiety.
Many people suffer from symptoms like chest pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, stomach issues, muscle pain, headaches, and more. But the big question is—are these symptoms due to an actual physical illness, or is anxiety the real culprit?
This confusion is common because anxiety can mimic serious physical conditions. So, in this video, I’ll explain how to differentiate between physical and psychological symptoms and when to seek help from a doctor or psychiatrist.
Understanding the Two Possible Causes of Symptoms
Whenever we experience physical discomfort, it generally happens due to two reasons:
Physical (Anatomical) Causes – This means that something is structurally or functionally wrong with the body. It could be due to:
An infection (like pneumonia, UTI, or gastritis)
A blood clot (like DVT or stroke)
A tumor
Any other internal damage or disorder
Psychological (Mental) Causes – These occur when there is no physical damage, but the mind creates symptoms due to stress, anxiety, or other mental health issues. This is known as psychosomatic illness, where emotional distress causes real physical symptoms.
How to Differentiate Between the Two?
The most accurate way to determine whether your symptoms are physical or psychological is through medical investigations (tests like ECG, MRI, X-ray, blood tests, etc.).
When to See a Specialist?
If the test results show an abnormality → The problem is physical. You should visit a specialist (cardiologist, neurologist, pulmonologist, gastroenterologist, etc.).
If the test results are completely normal → The symptoms are likely due to anxiety, stress, or another psychological cause. In this case, a psychiatrist can help.
Real-Life Examples
Let’s look at some common symptoms and how to analyze them correctly:
1. Headache & Dizziness
If an MRI, CT scan, or EEG shows a brain-related issue → You need a neurologist.
If all tests are normal, but you still experience heaviness, dizziness, or brain fog → It is likely due to anxiety or stress, and a psychiatrist can help.
2. Chest Pain & Palpitations
If an ECG, Echocardiogram, or Angiography detects a heart problem → You should see a cardiologist.
If all heart tests are normal, but you still feel tightness or discomfort → Anxiety could be the reason, and a psychiatrist should be consulted.
3. Shortness of Breath & Breathlessness
If lung function tests, X-ray, or blood tests show an issue → You need a pulmonologist.
If your oxygen levels are normal, but you feel difficulty breathing → This is often caused by panic attacks or anxiety, which can be treated psychologically.
4. Stomach Issues (Gas, Bloating, Acidity, IBS-like Symptoms)
If tests like endoscopy, ultrasound, or blood tests reveal a disease → You need a gastroenterologist.
If no physical problem is found, but your digestive issues persist → It could be due to stress and anxiety, requiring mental health treatment.
5. Body Pain & Weakness
If blood reports, X-rays, or scans detect a disease → You need a specialist for that condition.
If all tests are clear, but you still feel tired, weak, or in pain → Anxiety can trigger these sensations. Seeing a psychiatrist can help you feel better.
Why Does Anxiety Cause Physical Symptoms?
Many people wonder, “If my reports are normal, why do I still feel sick?” The answer lies in psychosomatic symptoms.
When we overthink or stress, our brain sends signals to different parts of the body, causing:
Increased heart rate (palpitations)
Muscle tension (body pain)
Stomach irritation (acidity, bloating)
Rapid breathing (shortness of breath)
Dizziness and headaches
This happens because our mind and body are deeply connected. When the mind is disturbed, the body reacts.
How to Break the Cycle of Anxiety-Related Symptoms?
If medical tests show nothing abnormal, but you still suffer from unexplained symptoms, the solution is to address your mental health.
Here’s how you can start feeling better:
✅ Challenge Negative Thoughts – Learn to identify and control overthinking.
✅ Practice Relaxation Techniques – Deep breathing, meditation, and yoga help calm the mind.
✅ Seek Professional Help – A psychiatrist or therapist can provide treatment like therapy or medication.
✅ Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle – Exercise, eat well, and get enough sleep.
✅ Stay Positive – Remind yourself that anxiety can be controlled with the right approach.
Final Thoughts
If your medical reports are normal, but you still experience discomfort, it is very likely that your symptoms are caused by stress or anxiety. Instead of worrying about a serious illness, consider seeking help for your mental health.
By understanding the difference between physical and psychological symptoms, you can take the right steps toward better health and peace of mind.
