As the Covenant invasion of Earth continues, Kilo-9 ODST squad is deployed to drop directly onto the Covenant carrier over New Mombasa. However, their mission takes an unexpected turn when ONI agent Veronica Dare joins the squad at the last minute, overriding their original orders. Just as they deploy, the carrier executes a surprise slipspace jump directly over the city, unleashing a devastating shockwave that scatters the ODSTs across New Mombasa.

Six hours later, we wake up as the Rookie, stranded and alone in the now Covenant-controlled ruins of the city. Searching for his missing squad, the Rookie stumbles upon Dare’s discarded helmet, triggering a flashback to the moments just after the disastrous drop. Now playing as Buck, we fight through Covenant forces to reach Dare’s crash site—only to find her pod empty. As Buck and Romeo push forward, they encounter the game’s first Engineer, a strange, floating Covenant creature, only for Romeo to take it down with a well-placed sniper shot. But what exactly was that thing doing here, and where is Dare?

With the Rookie still searching and Buck’s squad pushing through the occupied city, the fate of Kilo-9 remains uncertain. The mystery of ODST is just beginning.
