Properly Good American Truck For UK Buyers | 2016 Ram 1500 5.7 HEMI Review - Beards n Cars

As covered in my review of the Viper-engined Dodge Ram SRT-10, my hopes for that potentially beastly truck were definitely dampened once I drove it. In particular its RWD-only platform and odd choice of transmission in the case of the Quad Cab version which I drove felt ill suited at best to such an exotic concept.

So when this updated 2016 shape Ram 1500 HEMI Quad Cab came up for sale at Affordable Prestige, my interest was piqued to see how it compared, certainly in terms of the more commonly found 5.7 HEMI V8 being used in this case, but even moreso to see if the gearbox and option to switch between 2WD and 4WD modes could improve on the experience.

Suffice it to say - it made a massive difference. In fact despite not having the on-paper numbers of an SRT-10, this 4th generation Ram felt immediately improved over its outgoing version, and over the course of my time driving it, the experience never disappointed. So with that in mind, let's head out on our comically tiny British roads in this beast of a truck, to answer two key questions. One: How does this version compare across the board to the SRT-10, and more importantly - is it even viable to buy, own and drive one of these trucks in the UK?
