Double Standard on National Identity
Joe Rogan: "When a completely white country wants to remain that way, people get very nervous.
If you have, for example, let’s say China—China is a country of Chinese people. We all agree that it is made up primarily of Chinese people. There are people from all over the world living there, but for the most part, it’s Chinese.
If China decided that it wants to remain Chinese, that being Chinese is fundamental to what China is, no one would have a problem with that. But if a country like Poland does it, then the reaction is: 'Oh, those white people want to keep everyone out, they want it to remain a country just for white people.'
Because that ties into the post-war ideology, the Aryan race ideology, the era after Nazism. That’s what really scares people. It’s the most recent stain on our history, where we look back and say, 'Wow, that was close. Evil almost won that time.'"
In a recent episode of his podcast, Joe Rogan discussed the global perception of nationalist policies and how reactions differ depending on a country’s racial composition. He explained that many people admire when a country like China prioritizes the well-being of its citizens and seeks to preserve its cultural identity. He pointed out that no one criticizes China for focusing on the interests of the Chinese, and that its national identity is clearly defined without causing controversy.
However, Rogan highlighted that when a predominantly white country, such as Poland, adopts similar policies and seeks to maintain its national identity, the reaction is entirely different. In these cases, such policies are often labeled as racist or even associated with Nazi ideologies. He explained that this reaction stems from the recent history of World War II and the fear of any stance that resembles the ideology of Aryan supremacy.
The podcaster argued that this double standard is evident in global discourse. Non-Western countries can emphasize their identity and protect their culture without major issues, while white-majority nations face harsh criticism if they attempt to do the same. Rogan noted that this phenomenon reflects a biased perception of national sovereignty and the rights of countries to define their immigration and identity policies.
