A Grid Down Apocolypse: Survive Without Power When Technology Fails

We rely on electricity and technology for everything from entertainment, and paying bills to medical necessities and powering our homes. There is literally nothing in our lives that isn’t touched by technology in one way or another. While it has made life more convenient and productive, it’s something quite a few people take for granted.

Behind every bit of data that travels through the internet, there is hardware attached to it. And that hardware whether it be something as simple as your cell phone, ATM’s, computer servers, or the large transformers and power lines that carry electricity across the country, all have vulnerabilities.

These vulnerabilities can be exploited by hackers and could be caused by a lack of maintenance, negligence, and age. In the worst-case scenario, another nation decides to take down parts or all of our power grid.

In this video, I go over what we can expect to see in these different scenarios, and what we should be doing. A nationwide grid-down event is much different than a neighborhood power outage. When it comes to severity, I break it down into four categories. These are Neighborhood, City, State, and Country. I also review how things will break down the longer the grid is down.
