Assemble a Team: Part 1 Continued:
In order to take down The Collectors, Shepard must go through the Omega-4 Relay to strike the Collectors at their base, effectively a suicide mission. In order to have a chance at being successful, the Illusive Man instructs Shepard to travel the galaxy and assemble an elite team to get the job done.

Omega:

Side Quest: Patriarch: Aria asks Shepard to deal with Patriarch, an old krogan warlord she once defeated and keeps as a pet. Shepard convinces him to stand his ground and kill the mercenaries hunting him, earning Aria’s respect and a secret bounty.

Normandy:

Side Quest: Serrice Ice Brandy: Dr. Chakwas asks Shepard to find a bottle of Serrice Ice Brandy. Once retrieved, Shepard and Chakwas share a drink, strengthening their bond.

Korlus:

Dossier: The Warlord: Shepard heads to Korlus to find Okeer, a krogan scientist creating a perfect krogan soldier. The facility is overrun with Blue Suns mercenaries and failed krogan experiments. Okeer has created a perfect genetically mutated Krogan and needs Shepard to take down, Jedore, the Commander of the local Blue Suns, who is venting the room with gas. You then confront Jedore, who is armed with a rocket launcher and a YMIR Mech, and you are tasked with killing her while Okeer protects his specimen. After defeating Jedore, you return to Okeer's lab to find it filling with toxins, killing Okeer but leaving a message asking you to protect his legacy, the perfect Krogan.

Release Grunt: Back on the Normandy, Shepard retrieves the korgan tank and later decides to activate the krogan, who names himself Grunt and eagerly joins the team.

Prison Ship Purgatory:

Dossier: The Convict: Shepard visits the Blue Suns-operated Purgatory to recruit Jack, a powerful biotic. The warden betrays Shepard, attempting to imprison them, but Shepard and the team fight through the ship, release Jack from cryo-stasis, and escape. Jack joins the squad but remains hostile toward Cerberus.

Horizon:

Talk with the Illusive Man: The Illusive Man warns Shepard that Horizon, a human colony, is about to be attacked by the Collectors.

Saving Colony: Shepard arrives in time to battle Collector forces, including Seeker Swarms and a massive Praetorian. Despite their efforts, many colonists are abducted. The Illusive Man is impressed Shepard saved the colony, but Shepard is angry he leaked information on Shepard's relationship with Cerberus; the Illusive Man admits he lured the Collectors to the colony because he was not willing to wait for them to strike.

Reunite with Kaidan Alenko: Shepard reunites with Kaidan after defending the colony, who is shocked to see them alive and working with Cerberus. Distrusting Shepard’s new allies, Kaidan refuses to join and leaves on bitter terms.
