Prophets Lie, Animals Talk, Flattery Kills, They Lied To You About the Dark Ages (Ezekiel 13 Stream)

If the so-called “Age of Enlightenment” dawned upon the “Dark Ages,” then it is rather like the dawning of the moon while the sun remains high, only to eclipse it—an omen of the coming night and the governance of a lesser light.

Sehnsucht—that strange whisper that haunts us, that familiar ache of the soul mingled with the shadow of ecstasy, a breath of desire which dissipates like a dream—that childhood echo of a home that never was, and a return that never will be. Sehnsucht—the longing induced by beauty so arresting that to behold is not enough; it arouses movement, a desire in the subject to be taken into the object completely, to be one with it, to find in it that far-off, long-lost home, that rest for the soul—to awake as from deep sleep and breathe with Adam, “At last.”

“Precisely because they have misled my people, saying, ‘Peace,’ when there is no peace,
and because, when the people build a wall, these prophets smear it with whitewash.” (13:10)

An ear trained by the serpent seeks flattery and words of ease—and is animated by them as by a charmer. Such an ear recoils from discipline and words of correction, as a serpent recoils from fire. But an ear trained by the Lord flees from flattery and embraces warnings and corrections, knowing they are the language of authentic love and the refining fire of truth.
