The Concorde Spies - How Soviet Agents Infiltrated The Concorde Project

One of the more fascinating aspects of the development of the BAC/Aerospatiale Concorde, and today is frequently overlooked by the many other facets of the world's only successful supersonic airliner to date, is the infiltration of a vast espionage network within both the French and British development teams of the Concorde project, as facilitated by communist sympathisers and contacts who were working directly on the project, such as the notorious 'Ace'.

At the same time, British and European counter-intelligence agencies worked tirelessly to identify Soviet agents and handlers working within Western Europe, who sought out details on the Concorde project under what was known as Operation Brunhilde, and questions linger as to how much of the stolen information by communist operatives would actually come to inform the finalised Tupolev Tu-144, which would see a hasty maiden flight ahead of the Concorde during 1968.
