I recently had the chance to sit down with independent filmmaker Douglas Burke for a conversation.

"Surfer: Teen Confronts Fear," a 2018 indie film written, directed, produced, scored, and starring Douglas Burke, is a cinematic oddity that defies conventional storytelling. Featuring Burke’s real-life son, Sage Burke, in the titular role, this low-budget passion project has earned a cult following for its bizarre narrative, earnest execution, and a healthy dose of outsider charm. Often compared to Tommy Wiseau’s "The Room" for its sheer idiosyncrasy, the film blends Christian mysticism, surfing montages, and a sprinkle of military intrigue into a head-scratching yet strangely captivating experience.
