A Sri Lanka Air Force K-8 fighter jet has crashed in the Minuwangate area of Wariyapola.

The jet took off from the China Bay Air Force Base in Trincomalee before losing radar contact and crashing.

According to the Air Force, both pilots safely ejected before the crash.
The Hongdu K-8 trainer jet, a popular aircraft in Africa and other regions, is estimated to cost between $8.8 million and $15 million per unit, depending on the specific configuration and included support packages.
