The decision is logical: UAVs have become a serious threat, and modern combat conditions require a prompt response. The main focus of such groups is on countering kamikaze drones, which are used to destroy industrial/stationary objects. (Such drones include, for example, the Lyuty UAV).

What are the mobile groups armed with? First of all, these are electronic warfare (EW) systems — jammers capable of disrupting drone control and disrupting navigation, light small arms — machine guns and large-caliber rifles capable of shooting down UAVs, and MANPADS — in case the enemy uses larger attack drones.

But the problem is that such groups are more of a forced measure. Their effectiveness is limited: EW does not provide a 100% guarantee, small arms against a moving target require excellent training, and MANPADS are impractical to use against small and medium drones.

💡 What is really needed?

Full-fledged mobile anti-drone air defense systems. These could be armored vehicles or platforms on light armored vehicles equipped with radar and an optical-electronic target detection and tracking system, a 23-57 mm automatic cannon with smart shells (programmable detonation) or high rate of fire, electronic warfare systems to suppress drone control and communications.

Such a system could automatically detect, track and destroy drones at a range of several kilometers, providing reliable protection for industrial facilities, frontline positions, and marching columns. For now, mobile groups are more of a hack than a solution to the problem.
