FBI Director Kash Patel Outlines Priorities in First Post-Confirmation Interview

Washington, D.C. – March 24, 2025 – FBI Director Kash Patel addressed his agency’s top priorities in his first television interview since being confirmed as head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Speaking with Trey Gowdy on Fox News’ Sunday Night in America on March 23, 2025, Patel detailed plans to reassign agents from the Washington, D.C. headquarters to field positions nationwide to strengthen efforts against fentanyl, narco-trafficking, and other crimes.

Patel highlighted that approximately one-third of FBI agents are currently stationed in D.C., while crime occurs across the country. He identified key focus areas for the agency, including sex trafficking, fentanyl and heroin overdoses, and violent crime such as gang murders, homicides, and rapes. He also cited illegal immigration as a contributing factor to violent crime.

The director emphasized the need for a “proper show of force” in communities and a robust partnership with the Department of Justice, now led by Attorney General Pam Bondi, to prosecute crimes investigated by the FBI. Patel noted that he has limited media interactions in recent weeks to concentrate on restoring law enforcement and public confidence in the agency.

Prior to his appointment, Patel served as chief of staff at the Department of Defense, a federal prosecutor, and a podcaster. He succeeded Christopher Wray, who stepped down before the start of President Trump’s second term. Patel has previously proposed repurposing the FBI’s J. Edgar Hoover Building in D.C. as a museum, though specifics on this and the agent reassignment plan, including timelines and costs, have yet to be released.
