This is a simple and easy to use little device that does just one job and does it well without making a lot of fuss about it. It will allow your older laptop or PC to take advantage of the higher speeds and connectivity of your new WiFi 6 or Wifi 6E router.

In the attractive mid market box, I received just the dongle (model NF-U353) itself and a well written but rather small user guide. Nothing else is needed.

The compact 85 x46 x 10 mm, 18g, dongle plugs into a USB 3 port (USB 2 will work but is slower) and can give you transmission speeds of up to 5400Mbps depending on your router and the network type you are connected to. The dongle uses the latest OFDMA and MU-MIMO technology (whatever that is) to give you a more efficient and faster network with support for WPA3 encryption. The dongle supports IEEE 802.11ax/ac/a/b/g/n wireless standards on the 6GHZ, 5GHz, and 2.4GHznetwork streams. An optional extension cable with a mount is available for an additional charge for use with desktop computers.

To install, just plug the dongle into a USB 3 port on your computer, wait a few seconds until it is recognised and then go to the automatically installed driver disk in My Computer and install the driver. If you have any problems then uninstall any previous conflicting drivers and restart the machine. I had no issues and it just started working at once.

The device is designed when used with a fast USB3 port and a WiFi 6E network. Be aware that it may not be any faster than your current adapter when used with a slower old style network. Mac devices are not supported and when I experimentally plugged it into my Mac Mini4 it did not appear to detect it, although I did not pursue it further.

Currently priced at £39 before discounts, this is a relatively inexpensive way of breathing new life into your older computers by allowing them to keep pace with the faster devices on your home network.
