Hawaii, Day One: Save the Coral Reefs

The wife and I have been to Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Aruba; the family has been to Costa Rica, but Hawaii was a new experience for us all.

Oh, wait.

No.

The wife went there in 2006.

Oops.

Either way, prepare for a week of videos from the sunshine state!

Wait, crap.

That’s Florida.

Wouldn’t want to travel there, ugh.

The Aloha state! That’s Hawaii!

An island chain in the Pacific, we stayed on Maui.

(And spent a day on Lana’i.)

Good times were had, and information absorbed.

Information like the destruction of the coral reefs, normally attributed to global warming/climate change, but is also an ecosystem disrupted by the chemicals in sunscreen.

So, how do you use less sunscreen, while avoiding skin cancer?

Swim shirts!

Naturally, I forgot to pack mine, but there was a handy-dandy Ross Dress for Less on the island, so instead of plopping down $65 at a boutique, I spent $13 for an overrun.

(Sorry, islanders. But don’t worry, I bought three (THREE!) shirts from local shops. They were more reasonably priced than the swim shirts you were selling.)

Anyway, who knew body positivity (and or body shaming) could have an environmental impact?

I didn’t, but I hope you get a chuckle out of my discovery.
