A witness of the priesthood that I would add to my invitation to read the Book of Mormon

John the Baptist, who baptized Jesus Christ and held the proper authority, gives the priesthood to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery.

Jesus explained to John that this was to fulfill all righteousness. Even Jesus needed to be baptized by proper authority. After Jesus was baptized Heavenly Father's voice was heard saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

Later Peter, James and John, the presidency of the apostleship that Jesus set up after His resurrection, give the Melchizedek priesthood, which holds the keys of apostleship, to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdry.
